A registered, powered twelve week trial of a heat killed bacterial preparation missed its primary outcome in 120 overweight adults. Weight, BMI and leptin moved only in the half of participants whose gut community was least diverse to begin with, a split the authors did not plan.

Twenty four healthy adults took nitrate rich or nitrate stripped beetroot, with and without caffeine. Caffeine alone raised two measures of arterial stiffness. Taken together with the nitrate rich drink, those measures sat at placebo levels.

Sixteen advanced resistance trained men lifted and jumped under capsaicin, placebo and no supplement at all. All three conditions came out the same. The third arm was there to catch a belief effect, and it did not find one.
Nutrition and Health · de et al. · Paulista University · 20 August 2026 · PMID 42623016
A critical review of exercise, redox balance and ageing finds the popular idea of pairing compounds such as astaxanthin, curcumin or sulforaphane with training is not supported by current clinical evidence. Almost all the encouraging work sits in cell culture and rodent models, with very little human data in older populations.

Thirty healthy adults ate 25 grams of inulin with either a fructan digesting enzyme or a placebo capsule. Symptoms were milder over the following day, while breath hydrogen and methane were identical.

Sixty four adults aged 45 to 65 took creatine or a matched placebo for twelve weeks, some alongside an exercise and weight loss programme and some without. Creatine increased lean tissue mass and strength in both settings. The cognitive and blood marker results, which are the ones currently driving the supplement's marketing, are labelled exploratory by the authors themselves.
Journal of the International · Chun et al. · Texas A and M University · 11 August 2026 · PMID 42578920
In an eight week randomized placebo controlled trial in older adults, Pediococcus acidilactici PA53 was reported to improve stool consistency by 28% and reduce GI symptoms by 9.5%, with shakier headline gains in happiness and sleep. Every figure currently rests on trade reporting.
The Journal of Nutrition · Wang et al. · 4 August 2026
France's food safety agency ANSES reported liver decompensation, kidney failure and transplant in a 54 year old with pre existing liver disease who massively over consumed mass gainer and whey, rating the supplement link very likely for the liver injury.

Pooling 12 randomised trials, ginger supplementation was associated with a 5.03 mmHg drop in systolic and a 2.03 mmHg drop in diastolic blood pressure, with larger reductions in trials that used 2000 mg a day or more. The authors rate the certainty of their own evidence as low, because the trials disagree with each other.
Journal of Human Nutrition · Karimi et al. · Bogomolets National Medical University, Kyiv · 1 August 2026 · PMID 42566667
A systematic review of 91 sodium bicarbonate supplementation studies found GI symptoms rising dose dependently from 0.2 to 0.5 g/kg, and identified four promising mitigation strategies, none of which has been compared head to head.
European Journal of Sport · Winter et al. · undefined August 2026 · PMID 42499192
In a randomized crossover of 13 physically active young men, 800 mg of nitrate from beetroot juice improved peak torque and power by roughly 3 to 4% at two of three tested speeds. Isokinetic strength, not endurance performance.
Nutrients 18(14):2377 · 31 July 2026
In a 12 week randomised trial, men from couples with recurrent pregnancy loss who took alpha lipoic acid ended with lower sperm DNA fragmentation than those on placebo. Conventional semen measures did not separate the groups, and nobody tracked whether a pregnancy followed.
International Journal of Fertility · Khadem et al. · Mashhad University of Medical Sciences · 27 July 2026 · PMID 42571056
Pooling 14 randomised trials of oral antioxidants in IVF and ICSI, researchers found higher clinical pregnancy rates and more mature eggs collected. The live birth signal came from just three trials and disappeared when one of them was removed.
Frontiers in Endocrinology · Qiang et al. · Beijing University of Chinese Medicine · 22 July 2026 · PMID 42558317
In 24 elite male combat athletes cutting weight before competition, a seven strain probiotic kept GI symptoms and gut barrier markers roughly stable over four weeks while the placebo group deteriorated sharply.
Frontiers in Nutrition · Wang et al. · 15 July 2026
A screen of 784 bacterial strains from fermented foods found 87 that adsorbed more than 60 percent of polystyrene particles. The two best were given to mice exposed to plastic. Residual particles in the ileum fell by about two thirds, and a deliberately poor binder changed nothing.
